In the manufacturing process a 12 inch long bar is precision drilled and then placed on a mandrel, where several rings are machined at once on the bar. Two consecutive rings become a pair, which insures little variation in the pair. This eliminates the need to “lap in” the rings on well aligned bases.
For 600 Yards + Shooting… Not needed for Air Rifles!
There are many misconceptions in the world about what 25MOA rings do. Many of those misconceptions stem from perceptions about what a set of 25MOA rings are capable of providing, and when it is needed on a rifle. Many shooters who want to shoot long range automatically assume they need 25MOA rings without fully understanding what the rings do, or how they can affect their rifle and scope performance.
Long range is considered to be 600 yards and beyond since many rifle, cartridge and scope combinations start to reach their limit with 0MOA scope rings around this range.
When a shooter is adjusting the elevation dial on the scope for ranges longer than what the gun is zeroed for, at some point, the scope will run out of elevation. In many instances this is around 600 yards, give or take.
How does a 25MOA scope rings work? Typical 0MOA scope rings are considered flat, or level with the bore of the gun. A set of 25MOA scope rings are canted down in the front toward the barrel. Canting a set of 25MOA rings in the front allows for more usable elevation adjustment in the scope.
To many shooters who are not familiar with the concept, canting a scope down in front sounds incorrect. They feel it makes more sense to them if the scope is pointed up. To help explain how this works, please take a look at the illustration below.
If we have a rifle with 0MOA scope rings, and there is a laser going through the middle of the scope, and the middle of the rifle bore that go forever, and lets say the rifle is zeroed at 100 yards, those 2 lasers will intersect at the 100 yard target.
If we then change to 25MOA scope rings, the scope’s laser will be on target, and the rifle’s laser will be hitting the target 25 inches high. This is essentially how a set of 25MOA scope rings work, since you are now hitting 25 inches high, you can dial the scope back so the rifle is zeroed at 100 yards again, and you have an extra 25 inches of elevation to work with.
